Ways to Volunteer
There are so many ways to participate with the mission of Jonah's Journey. Of course the obvious is to donate money but a lot of us are on fixed budgets these days so we aren't able to donate but would like to do something to help. Below is a list of ways you could help and make a difference in these women's lives. Please feel free to e-mail with questions.
1. Write Letters- The inmates think very highly of letters they receive in the mail. A lot of these girls have no one writing to them. Some do but need the right kind of encouragement.
2. Become a Visitor-Some people do not want to take in the babies but would love to visit with these women. Again we are just about the only visitors they have especially if they have been brought in from East TN.
3. Help with donations of goods-We take in all kinds of items for these ladies. We need household goods, baby items, and children's clothing. There are many ways to help get the word out.
4. Transportation-Once these girls get out of prison they may not have their license. They will need help getting back and forth to school and/or work, church, grocery store, bus stop, etc.
5. Babysitting-There may be times that a babysitter is needed to help if the mom is in school and working. All babysitters will go through a background check.
6. Care Takers-This service is a very devoted and long term service. This person would mentor to the mom before she has the baby to make sure of her intent for the program. The Care Taker would then follow up, with the help of Jonah's Journey, for a year after her release. All applicants will have to have a background check.
7. Fund Raising-Have an idea, know someone that could help raise money, or just be there for support.
8. Home Placement-Take these girls into your homes for 1 year to help them get to and from work, school, and church.
9. Employment-Help them find jobs, give them a job in your company. The state provides a bond for the employers.
10. Any help at all is appreciated.
